A Catholic chapel was established in the village of Nichols in June 1960 by Fr. William J. O'Brien, pastor of St. Patrick's church in Owego. The chapel was intended to serve the roughly 150 Catholics who resided in the village; mostly employees of the nearby IBM facility in Binghamton. The former D. L. & W. Railroad station was rented out. In 1967, the community began to share a local Methodist church for Sunday Masses. The Nichols chapel would cease to exist as of 1977/8.
